President's Message

Date: Winter 2020
Message From: David Lebert, CNM

Greetings once again to all our members from coast to coast! As our season changes to winter, I found this quote that I would like to share: “Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire: it is time for home.” – Edith Sitwell

Winter brings many enjoyable offerings; hockey and football season, outdoor sports, fresh crisp air, as well as hearty and warming nutritious foods.

To me, winter brings the greatest time of the year – the holidays. Especially all the opportunities to spend time and share meals with residents, patients, clients and our own friends and love ones, creating holiday memories to hold throughout the years!

You may have heard that your CSNM board recently participated in a strategic planning weekend. This process started earlier this year in May, and since then, your CSNM board has been working very hard toward developing our next strategic plan.

In late September/early October, our board brought the key focus items to you, our members, so that we could listen to our members.

During this time, eight different zoom/online discussion group meetings were conducted on eight identified core topics:

  • CSNM governance
  • Provincial chapters
  • Accreditation
  • Member engagement
  • Certification
  • Member value
  • Legislative advocacy
  • Stakeholder education
  • Advocacy
Using the information gleaned from member participation, along with the pre-work done since earlier this year, on October 25, 26 and 27, your board met in person, with our facilitator, Kristin Arnold, and devised a dynamic strategic plan for our society.

As of this writing, the final touches are being done to have the plan completed.

We will be communicating our strategic plan to our members through a virtual town hall meeting in the near future.

On behalf of the CSNM’s board of directors, I would like to thank all of the members who took the time to participate in our strategic sessions. This feedback and input contributed greatly to our plan and helped to encourage innovative and creative thinking.

Best wishes to all of you for a safe and joyful upcoming holiday season, and best wishes for a happy 2020!
